What this routine helps with

Make ghassoul gentler and more pleasant to use.

Anyone trying ghassoul for the first time.

In the hammam, ghassoul clay is mixed into a paste. Many Moroccan women replace part of the water with rose water, so the paste feels softer and smells fresh instead of earthy.

This routine is a body or hair wash, not a treatment. Use it once a week at most.

Before you begin

2 tablespoons pure ghassoul powder Pure rose water and warm water A glass or ceramic bowl

  1. Step 1

    Mix

Put the powder in the bowl. Add equal parts warm water and rose water a little at a time until the paste looks like thick yoghurt.

  2. Step 2

    Apply

Wet hair or skin. Smooth the paste on and leave it for 5 minutes. Do not let it dry.

  3. Step 3

    Rinse

Rinse with warm water until it runs clear, then moisturise or condition.

Patch-test first and keep the paste away from the eyes. Skip if skin is broken or sunburnt.

Why rose water

It does not change what ghassoul does. It makes the experience gentler and adds the scent Moroccan women expect from the hammam.
