Soften grey strands into a warm tone without chemical dye.
Women with some grey who want a gentle, plant-based colour.
Henna stains grey strands orange-red. On dark hair the colour is subtle; the grey strands are the ones that change, and they blend into a warm glow.
The result is not a natural black and it builds with each use. If you want black, henna is not the tool.
Natural henna powder (Lawsonia inermis only) Warm water, a non-metal bowl, gloves and a plastic cap
Step 1
Test on a hidden lock and rinse to see the colour.
Step 2
Mix about 100 g powder with warm water to thick yoghurt and rest a few hours.
Step 3
Apply first to the greyest areas, then the rest. Cover 2–3 hours for deeper colour.
Step 4
Rinse well and condition. Repeat after 2–4 weeks; colour builds each time.
Strand test first. Never use black henna: it can burn skin. Do not mix with chemical dye.
Grey hairs may look bright orange at first and settle to a deeper copper over two days. Patience matters more than quantity.
